SCCA Rule Re: Wheel Width in ST:

14.4 Wheels Any wheels are allowed with widths up to the following (OE wheels exceeding these maximums are not permitted) (in.):
STX (AWD) ................................................................................................................... 8.0
STX & STR (2WD)...................................................................................................... 9.0
STP (independent rear suspension) .................................................................... 10.0
STU, STP (solid axle rear suspension)................................................................ 11.0

Does this mean I CAN use a NON-OE wheel that exceeds those listed??!

clever, but no
you must use wheels that do not the max width specified

if your car came with OE wheels wider than specified (such as a WRX Sport-tech package with 18x8.5" in STX) then you must use an alternate 8" width rim instead.

OK but still not clear... I'll rephrase my question: In STX can one use an aftermarket wheel that is wider than the OE (7") BUT equal to/less than the max. listed (8")?

Thanks! Until now I had assumed this rule said that one could only use wheel widths up to OE width or 8", which ever was less, in STX.

"Any wheels are allowed with widths up to the following"

Seems pretty clear to me....
