The only major change is for tires - max width of 195 and min TW rating of 600 for RHD RX7's.

As far as regional rules go, Street Prepared/Street Modified and Prepared/Modified championships have been combined. SCCA has different classes in Street Touring. STF is gone. STH is new. There's a new class, Solo Spec Coupe (SSC), for FRS/BRZs.

Aren't they allowing engine swaps in SM this year also?

Yup. from the 2018 SCCA draft regulations

"Engine block (or housings of rotary engines) must be a production unit
that can be sourced from a production automobile. Any block that is not
sourced from a car of the same brand will be assessed a 150-lb. weight
adjustment in addition to all weight calculations in Appendix A. Brands
that exist as marketing aliases for the manufacturer will be recognized
as equivalents. Swaps involving brands related only at a corporate level
are not recognized as equivalents and will be subject to the weight adjustment
referenced above. This allows engine blocks manufactured as
production units for sale in other countries such as Japan or Germany
"

Basically the LS rule. I think most of the swaps locally don't fall into SM body types though.

That includes SM/SSM/SMF so basically anything that was sold as a passenger car is eligible. But the rest of the rules have to be followed, including the interior rules and min weights. LS swap cars will have a pretty hefty min weight:

1800 [base weight]+(200*5.3) [displacement weight]+150 [penalty] -200 [275 or less tire width weight break] = 2810lb without driver. 2950 if it's a 6L.

Fine for something heavy like an E36 or E46, not so much for a 240. But any SM car can run SSM, the min weight is 200lb less.

I think top tier builds in the US will probably be looking at 4cyl turbos that are more economical to build. K series, ecotecs, etc.

Perhaps I misread but I believe Street Touring is allowing modification of the boost tables now?

Yes, ECU programming for ST is now unrestricted. But still limited to factory sensors and ST exhaust rules.

The set I run on the highway are TW 600 I think :orglaugh:
They might outlast the rest of the car

Swaps were always ok, just not between different manufacturers until now

Thanks Ming! ...A little local ARMS picture representation in the ASN headings, nice

However our local (and for that matter National) links don’t seem to have that “supplemental” XP rule section anymore though? Albeit I did find them contradictory with other Prepared rules in at least one instance, but they do still exist in the 2018 SCCA ruleset ...so shouldn’t they still be in our rules?

Yours in Motorsports
Stacy

Whoever made those ASN pdfs messed up, Appendix A and B are the same. XP is most definitely still a class. And XP rules can contradict other prepared rules because it overrides them.

I just sent Terry, Paul and Michelle an email advising of their mix up. They took what I submitted and chopped it apart.
